Sacrifice: the mantra to leadership

It is said that all that you chase evades you and what you give away comes back to you. That's the law of Karma. When I revisit great epics like the Mahabharata, the sacrifices made by the Pandavas to establish peace inspite of the injustice dished out by their cousins made them the heroes and therefore the subjects of Hastinapur preferred them over their cruel cousins. In Ramayana as well, Lord Rama sacrificed his right to rule to obey the wishes of his father and later he chose to abstain from the pleasures of married life to win the trust of the people. The Buddha sacrificed the comforts of the palace to attain wisdom and lead humanity to the perfect world he visualised. Jesus sacrificed himself to cleanse the sons of humanity. Willingness to sacrifice what others crave for is one of the main qualities a leader must have.
